Anchor light…..

Hell all,

So anchor light is original 18 years old with an aftermarket LED bulb plugged in. Going up the mast next weekend and started over thinking everything. So think I want to replace my anchor light. Fixture now is just anchor light.

benefits of tri color with difficulty of rewire versus remain anchor only? What brands?

I utilized the AquaSignal Series 40 light in 2016. I swapped out the standard lights of LED's.

I chose the tricolor and anchor light, no strobe. The strobe can be added later. Ran a single 3 strand marine wire to the light. Ignoring the wire colors, White is positive for the tri-color, black is positive for the anchor and Green is negative for both lights.

The existing anchor light wire can be used as a messenger to pull the new 3 strand wire up the mast. Using LED's 14/3 or 16/3 gauge would be serviceable.

Note the tri color on the masthead works great away from shore. Easy to see in the dark. Put it on a brightly lit shore line and the light becomes more difficult to identify as a boat either sailing or anchored.

Judge your backdrop before you go to sleep or powering about. You may want alternative running lights on the deck level or an additional light hung above the Cabin at night. I like a solar powered Luci light for this purpose.

my B411 mast head looks like this. My former bulb was an Aqua Signal 12V 10W with an "S" shaped filament. Bayonet B5 size with two bottom contacts. But I do like the light mentioned above and the price is great.

I installed the Marinebeam Smart LED tri-function light on 2 boats and it is my recommendation. It's an easy installation and just utilize the existing wiring if the wiring is in good condition. It's a good solution because you can use either your running lights or the tri-color at the masthead depending on your location - your choice.
