I had the same problem. I took some teak, about 1" thick x 6" long and added them between the cleat and the rail, effectiviely raising the cleat horns above the rail. Works great and looks sharp and I've had no problems. Oh, and naturally, you have to buy longer stainless steel 1/4" bolts.
Thanks for the raiser idea. Will give it a try. Has anyone added a center cleat (say between the two bow cleats, thru the deck) for the anchor?? Is it structurally sound to do this (since Hunter did not provide one) ?? What do I need to do to reinforce the deck etc ??
I cut a block of teak in a trapazoidal shape( like previous posting mentioned) so that it was butt up aganst the forestay fitting and then used some SS machine screws with washers and shot them thru opening in toe rail - 2 per side into the teak block. Then mounted a (is it called? ) "fairing" so that I could drop the anchor line ( fastened at the regular cleat) into the fairing and it keeps the anchor line from rubbing/cutting against the edge of the forestay. Sofar so good.Jim McCue
