I need to replace the anchor chain on our 2004 Catalina 387 - the sailboat is equipped with a Maxwell windless. I took the gimble off and tried different chain sizes on it. It looks like a 5/16 of 3/16 fit. Got any information on what size is correct?>?

Good for you to check different chain sizes with a sample chain diameters, which is what I also do for a windlass on a used boat BEFORE I purchase new chain and rode. Is it horizontal, vertical, photo? If you know can identify the model on this site Maxwell Windlass from WMJ marine you can confirm the chain and rope diameters.
