OK so the ladder for the mast got a few going :) So all you 260 owners how long is the chain on your anchor and with the standard (?)anchor that comes with the 260 what are the worst conditions you have anchored in without dragging?

On Java, I have 15 feet of chain. One night this last spring we were taking sustained gusts up to 30kts. I had 30 ft of line plus the chain in 4 ft of water. Danced all over the place but the anchor held. Jim S/V Java

Anchoring Enhancer

Somewhere I saw a posting in which it was recommended that an 18/20 lb mushroom/river anchor be slipped down the anchor line on a snap ring to the chain rode after the anchor is set. Sounds good....

my method

I slide the mushroom anchor down the rode with a snap ring as the previous poster suggested. This lowers your scope and also allows your boat to rotate around the mushroom in light air which prevents your keel from snagging on the rode. Works for me!

Thanks Jim ,Alan & Mike

Yes there is no doubt that even on these smaller yachts having lots and lots chain out there makes sure the anchor stays set. By the way Jim have you heard from Ray lately. The beers are getting colder in anticipation of his arrival in Albany (Western Australia)

Anchor chain and rode on Speedy, our H26

was 40' of 5/16" and 110 feet of 3/4 inch 3 strand nylon. We uses a danforth 14# in sand, gravel, small rock and stiff mud. In sand and gravel it held nicely in a storm of 30mphwinds and 2 to 3 foot chop. We had 130 feet our and the anchor depth was 15 feet. Ray S/V Scooter PS. Jim and Mark, the new boat is a 38' cutter. I won't say what kind until the deal is final the end of next week, but you'll tip over too.
