Hello all! Anyone ever use the anchor alarm on an RL70, and notice you can't really hear it down below ? I was thinking, somehow I would like to extend the buzzer down below in the aft cabin. After looking at all the manuals, it does not look like there is a published way to do this.. As anyone attempted to open the RL70 and extend the buzzer ? Thanks!

Extend Buzzer

I have not seen the detector you have, however the signal can be extended elsware. You would need some electrical background to perform this. If you can triger and turn on the alarm such that buzzer makes sound then you can measure the voltage across it. If is a sonalert, then it works on 3 to 12 volts DC. You can pick one up at Radio Shack or any electronic hobby store for about $ 5.00. Just solder two wires in the correct polarity across the one that works on the system and add one wherever you like. Do this at your owne risk. Good luck.

Alarm Relay

Goto “Electromechanical Relays” at: CruisersForum.com/photopost//showphoto.php?photo=1703 A “Solenoid” is a DC Relay. Your Anchor Alarm output would be the equivalent of the Switch, connected between +!2VDC & the equivalent of Terminal 85. Your new Louder Alarm would be connected accross the equivalent of terminals 87 and DC Negative (Ground).

Raymarine makes an add on alarm.

I don't hear high frequencies well and I have trouble hearing the regular alarm on my RL70CRC. I investigated and discovered that Raymarine makes an add on louder alarm. The boatyard installed it over the winter. From the instruction book, I understand that it works on a delay on the primary alarm, and after 30 seconds sounds the louder one. Dreamboat goes in about April 17, so I cannot try it until then. My Raymarine Dealer is very interested to see how this works as it's the first one they've done and he also has a similar hearing problem. If you want to followup after April 17 just e-mail me at mulf@comcast.net.

the real solution...

...is to purchase 250' of chain. Then, rather than going to sleep hoping you'll wake up when the alarm goes off--which ALWAYS makes for a bad night of sleep no matter how loud your alarm sounds--you can go to sleep hoping that you won't have to pee until sunrise.

That's right

Yeah, what the hell do you need the alarm for? Just leave your wife out there.

We keep a handheld backup.

We keep a handheld Garmin 48 which we use as backup and it has an anchor alarm. It came in much use one night at Rodriguez Key off Key Largo where the wind picked up and we started dragging anchor to shore. We barely had time to get the engine started and just drag the anchor out to deeper water under the danger of fouling the prop. One thing, keep fresh batteries on the unit as a low battery condition will trigger a message alarm which does get you up in a hurry.
