Beneteau 305 New Haven
Hello Everyone -

First post here. I am considering making an offer on a First 305 to be my first boat. I am rather tall (6' 2") and found the quarter berth to be a good fit for my size (more so than traditional cruiser boats in the 30' range - like the Catalina 30 for example).

I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with a First 305 - are these good boats for quick passage making? Are they known for solid construction? Any reason why I can't trust it in inclement weather?

If you are a current or previous owner of a 305, what was your favorite and least favorite aspects of the boat?

Thank you all for your help!. Hope to see you out there :D

Not sure how far you plan to cruise or how many nights.
We have a 321 and it is great for day sailing and 1-2 night trips. For longer trips, would prefer a larger boat.

I owned a 305 for 5 years and loved it. Therefore the heal is quite prononce and need to take reef as early as 15 knots... the lining inside was falling apart which a mess to refit.

Aside of the it is a very good boat and fast. It was our first boat and we did learn a lot on it. It is really seaworthy and 3njoyed every minutes on it.

Happy sailing

I have a Beneteau 285 and my friend and I spend 2 weeks at a time
cruising Puget Sound to Desolation Sound. Generally we either moor out or
dock every night so we get off the boat for awhile most days. He's 6'2"
and just clears the ceiling. For us it's a great boat and very comfortable. :)

Thank you all for your replies.

Ducking while below is not an issue, I do not mind that. Fitting in a berth without having to bend into a fetal position is important though :)

The ultimate cruising plan is to spend 2 months cruising down the Eastern coast of the US, from Connecticut to Florida (and possibly to Puerto Rico).

Even though the plan is to do coastal sailing, I am interested in seeing if anyone has taken a Beneteau First 305 off-shore. Is it a boat that could be capable of taking me to far off places one day or am I dreaming :)

Thanks people!
