New, old? Wood. Hmmm,....Serious racing intent, but she looks dated yet brand new at the same time.

HAWK is in fact dated with a historic racing record.

Conceived by Henry Scheel of Rockport Maine in the 60's, HAWK was designed by Bill Tripp to compete in the 'One Ton' series of that bygone era.

After her hay day in the One Ton era, she was modified for the new IOR rule and raced all over the world by world class crews with names that read as chronicle of racing history. http://brooklinboatyard.com/the-hawk/

Ok, that was a rough life for a wooden racing boat built in the 60's. HAWK found her way into a quieter life and likely some lack of maintenance.

A prior owner planned to restore her but that was not to be. She was offered up for free to anyone who could show they were serious about restoring her.

Apparently that new owner has been found. HAWK was recently restored at the Brooklin Boatyard.

She is the perfect platform of build and history to race in the many New England classic boat races like the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta.

Re-born at 50 and likely with a tough rating.

Didn’t Walter Cronkite sail that area?
I'm sure he did. I was told a story that Cronkite wanted Henry Hinckley to build him a new yacht.

Supposedly Walter wanted a discount from Henry, because Walter felt that the Cronkite name would be a return for Hinckley sales.

The story goes that Henry refused to build Walter Cronkite a new boat,...at any price. :)

Thanks Tom.
Love the pictures, the stories, the experience.
Great to sit here with a cup of coffee watching the sun peek up over the trees and see these great boats online coming back to get a chance to sail the waters of New England.
