Tri-ing to find info

American Machine Foundry [AMF] was dismantled in a hostile takeover nearly 20 years ago. Prior to that the Bowling equipment company had been acquiring all sorts of sports companies in an attempt to become a sports equipment super-giant. Their ads at the time boasted of recreational products that includeed AMF/Alcort Sailboats, Ben Hogan golf clubs, Head skis, Volt athletic equipment, Harley Davidson motorcycles [made in Japan], Whitely exercisers, Roadmaster bicycles, Slickcraft power boats, AMF bowling equipment and Skidaddler snowmobiles. The boat division(s) were assembled from the acquisition of several smaller boat builders. The ones with market appeal were spun off into their own companies at the break-up. Others just evaporated never to be heard from again. If your boat has a label that gives any hint of the original company, for instance, AMF/Trihull division (I made that up) then look in the USCG Manufacturer Identification Code (MIC) to see whether or not the division was picked up by another company. If you can't find anything in the MIC or on the internet then it's probably safe to assume your division disappeared into the corporate takeover ether and you are SOL. On the other hand, a sailboat is a sailboat. If you have all the parts you will always be able to find equivalent pieces or make your own from the ones you have. Happy Sails
