Has anyone bought the 6 ft model? From the pictures in the brochure, when this thing lays down it does so to the back and would make motor access impossible. Can it lay up on top of the cabin?

Ameriseam

I just bought and installed their Bimini for a '93 30' and I have to tell you they did a great job. I am totally satisfied. On the 30' it stows against the split back stays, and in fact there are zippered cutouts for the stays, so I don't have the same problem as you. My major concern was sailing close hauled with the Bimini up, and Jim at Ameriseam assured me it would work fine. It does. I bought the boat last year with an Atwood universal Bimini that would not let me sail with it up. The Atwood also collected 30 gallons of water every time it rained and that wasn't much fun either. I would go for the Ameriseam and live with the Bimini in the stowed position, or leave it up all the time. Good luck.

same problem on h26

I think the ameriseam product is great, I have the shorter version and it stows the same as yours and is always in the way when I have to use the motor;in fact I finally took the bimini off the boat-it is in the way more than I use it. I think I've used it 5 times in 5 years.... But is a quality product-just not for this boat.

Keep it up

I also have this prob. You have 2 options: 1. temporarily remove it, if you think you won't be needing it. I don't usually consider this, unless its cool outside and rain isn't in the forecast. its just 2 screws away 2. always leave it attached, even when you don't wish to use it. keep it attached, but in the folded and up position. You can still secure it in both directions. when folded and up, its no more in the way than the boom. brian

Quality of the bimini

We have had one on our 23.5 for a few years. We just leave it folded and up when trailering. While it does work just fine, I was disapointed in the fact that it is so baggy around the sides. Did I just get a bad one, or are they all like that? Rich

Installed one on a 260 this year...

I installed the 6 foot Ameriseam Bimini on my 260 (1999) this year and it works very well. Had to move the main sheet forward on the boom 8 inches to clear the forward edge of the bimini. Over all I am pleased with it and the Ameriseam people are very helpful and responsive. One minor issue I have is that there is no zipper or velcro on the pockets that hold the cloth to the metal support bars. The only way to remove the cloth for cleaning or winter storage is to remove the entire frame from the boat and dismantle the frame. Having shade while sailing in hot summer weather is wonderful. I have been sailing too many years without it, but not anymore! Fair winds... Tom
