Alternator regulator question

I'm installing a larger alternator and three stage external regulator on my 340 this spring. According to the installation directions received with the new regulator, the regulator should be installed in a cool, well ventilated place. I assume this precludes installation in the engine compartment. True? Has any other 340 owner found a place to put this regulator? Thanks for the help. By the way the regulator is the ARS III from Balmar.

Mike, I upgraded my Legend 37 with Balmar 8 yrs. ago. Mounted the 3 stage regulator in the engine compartment. No Problems. Bob

Me too.

Me too. ARS III in the engine compartment with a 3GM30 for 2.5 years now. Have put about 450 hours on the engine since.

factory installation in aft cabin

I ordered my 1999 340 from Hunter with a Balmer 100Amp alternator and a Heart Interface voltage regulator. Hunter installed the regulator in the aft cabin inside the small shelf that is below the bridge deck and over the engine transmission. The advantage of this location is that it is relatively easy to see the indicator lights on the regulator.
