Thanks to all who responded last weekend regarding my alternator questions. In the end I asked my Yard to replace the alternator and regulator. I just did not feel comfortable with the electrical hookups. This is the first project in 4 years that I was not able to complete on my own. On a related topic; the alternator belt. I do not have any clearance to remove the belt. Even with the old alternator removed, there is not enough room foward of the flywheel to remove the old belt. It would seem the only option is to cut away the fiberglass just foward of the engine, and below the flywheel to be able to slip the old belt off. Is this typical of a 89 Cat 30? Short of moving the engine backwards, are there any tricks out there to facilitate removal.
