Hi forum.

(Hopefully correct area) I am about to install a M.Grasser 140A Alternator coupled with a Balmar MC-614.
My question is around the 'built-in' harness that comes with the Alt. Instructions are not clear but i think i DO NOT need to use the cables coming off this as they are all pushed from the Balmar instead,?

bThanks for the response and query Maine Sail...

as per attached there are 4 wires on the Alt as shipped.
Blue going to Pos out
Green
Yellow
White -
I am going to use a MC-614 and have twisted up now in my mind if i need to use any of the outputs supplied with the Alt ?

i am kind of looking for something like your illustration of the ARS5

Maybe i should have added.

Current i have stock 3YM30 engine / alt from 2011.

I will be adding new Pos and Neg (Pos direct to house and fused) battery cables @1/0
Sense Wires for Balmar will BOTH be run (Pos & Neg) to house battery (or Main +- BUS)

Lenny, here's what I did when I replaced my OEM with an external regulator. You can do it, too.

Alternator Regulator Wiring Diagrams - all three http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,4548.0.html

Instead of dealing with only wire colors, learn what they all mean and do.

Thanks Stu, i did and have looked at that post, and most others here and on the myriad of forums yourself and MaineSail attend to :)

Again i am pretty sure the functions of the wires that come out of the alternator are outputs of the regulator, just not able to make that penny drop at the moment. i will try and figure out your diagrams

No, they should be separately fused,as shown. The fuse sizes will be different, because the AO is a heavier gauge of wire.

The regulator can pick up power at the back of the alt but not the voltage sensing.. Be sure the regulator power wire is fused and the terminal is stacked on-top of the B+/Output wires lug, not under it...

MaineSail. Thanks for the crystal clear images and wiring detail. You produce the best data info I have seen.

We are most fortunate to have your contributions to the forum.

Thank you.

Agree, and thankyou....it all seems and looks so simple once shown, i am sure it is frustrating us freshman asking similar questions all the time...immensely valuable details shared here
