Alternative to TV on Board ;)

Dan, I agree.

Fortunately, the TV (at home or in an RV or on a boat) can serve to entertain us and inform us. Unfortunately, some parents too often rely on it to be their surrogate, at the expense of spending quality time with their kids. That's my main beef with TV. I know it's not the set's fault, it's the fault of the parents who have become too busy or too lazy to nurture their kids. I think the wife of the original poster is wise to not allow the kids to watch TV while on board. At first they may complain and whine, but in the long run they will do activities associated with sailing, and more closely bond with their folks. Well, that's my $0.02. YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary). ~ Happy sails to you ~ _/) ~

Found Some Clear Bottom Paint *!

Turns out to be the same bottom paint the Navy uses on submarines. It is clear so that the subs are not seen when the submerge. ;) Now I have to figure out the best way to cut the hole I'm leaning towards a hole saw. A sawz all sounds like more fun though. *bzz

Perry, use an

chainsaw. That is what your going to need when your done to chop your boat up to put in the trash! Buy the TV! It is the American way! It is what makes us better than the rest of the world!

Jim, your right about TV

The older I get, the more that truth becomes self evident. That and cars, especially the interstate system.

kids, boats and TVs

While I certainly agree that there are a lot better things for kids to be doing on a boat other than watching TV, if they just have to have one then you should get to decide what they watch. Start with a bunch of sailing instruction videos, you know, navigation, radar, anchoring techniques, things that kids will REALLY enjoy! For entertainment, I'd suggest the DVD version of 'JAWS', 'JAWS II', 'DAS BOAT' and 'A PERFECT STORM'. That should keep 'em happy!

It's Clear !

While travelling recently, I saw a clear bottom put in a dinghy. The owners had just cut out a section of the bottom, and screwed a piece of plexiglass in its place. This is a lot easier than putting it in the large boat, and the kids can row around after you anchor for the night. P.S. I think this was also used by the parents to see where the fish were hiding.
