we just bought an albin vega in sanfrancisco(4 days ago).....i'm in
hawaii. now i've got to figure out what to do with it! it's been
surveyed and on and on to be "good sea worthy passage making shape"
but before we sail her back to hawaii i want to upgrade her out board
to an inboard diesel if the price is...hmmmm. "I want..." oh so many
things, but we'll see. i might have to cash in twenty years of future
christmas pesents with santa. anyway, might someone be familiar with
my bay area options? i was thinking about beefing up the standing
rigging when it's replaced. does this seem excessive for an albin
vega? i've read of people re-enforcing the hull and deck in places
for deep sea work. is there a tried and true method anybody's got?

Welcome to the group. If you can get ahold of a copy of "The Nature of
Boats" there is a formula for figuring rigging size. I forget what it is but
I did the math once and found that the Vega already
has oversized wire. Check out the current issue of Lattiude 38. There are a
couple of small Yanmars for sale in the classified section. Hull and deck
are probably already strong enough. You might consider beefing up the tabs
where the bulkheads connect to the hull. Good luck, Walt

Aloha Lindsay and Bob,
I have ownd my Vega for more than 7 years.
I have done a lot of work to it, including reinforcing the bulk heads
as well as the mast step. I have done the lifelines and the standing
rigging. I recomend that you look at the work I have done before
sailing the Pacific.

Hi Lindsay and Bob,

You should check out the American Vega Association website www.americanvega.org (and
also join the AVA to get access to LOTS of tips and upgrades). Chuck, who runs the AVA,
is very helpful, and he lives on his Vega in Hawaii, so you might be able to hook up with
him and get some tips.
If you have any specific questions just search this forum--there's lots of information.

Good luck,

Hi, any ideas where a good place to put an ad " For Sale" for my 30ft Albin Scampi. I'm in Saint Petersburg, Fl. I read some of the posts and it sounds as if these people are serious about Albins. Know anyone looking for a 30 ft Albin...... Thanks, Bob
