I have a 2003 326 with Yanmay 2GM20F. I want to replace my two blade Martec with a 3 blade fixed prop from Campbell Sailor. I filled out thier information request on their website and the prop they recommend is the RH14Dx8Px1. Does anyone have this prop and how do they like it.

We have two boats in our harbor that have used them with great success.

One is a H37C with a newer 30YM engine the other is an older H30 (Cherubini) with a 1 cyl engine.

They provide excellent customer service and can help you sizing the prop for your individual vessel.

That prop size 3RH 14"Dx8"P was recommended to me by Norm of West by North for my 2002 h326 with 2GM20F. After running it, I sent it back to him for re-pitching to 7" as I could not get more than 3200rpm . Finally I re-pitch it locally to 6". Works great for me. If your engine is tire, you may want a lower pitch between 6 and 7 inch. Love the Campbell Sailor prop but decide to change it out after a few inconvenient fouling by sea grass and ropes. But that's another story.

What did you change out the Campbell for, did you stay with 3 blade or go to a folding prop.

I changed to 2 blade Flex-O-Fold. 15"Dx12"P. Good performance. But I didn't like the 2blade vibration. Use it couple months then changed to 3blade Kiwi Feathering 16"Dx18deg. Good prop as well. Come to think of it, the folder vibration could be due to my engine/shaft alignment.

Ken, did you mean If your engine is Tired? If so what does that mean and how can I tell. Thanks.

There does seem to be a bit of a tendency for CS props to be sized a bit high. Norm recommended a 14X9 for me to replace my old 15X12 2 blade. Motor is a 3GM. Found I was over propped and had to re-size (CS charges for that, even tho it was their recommendation) to 14X7. Works ok now, 6knots at 2500, no black smoke. Possible that my motor is getting a bit "tired" as it is 30 years old.

I think my engine has wore some. I had ran the engine with near empty of lub oil for many many hours on one of long distance trip. Only to realise it much later. :cussing: Later I add STP (heavy silicone oil) to my engine luboil and immediately I gain 300 rpm ! That's what I meant by engine being tire.

I am just about to order the CS for my H320. They recommend 14x8 for the 320 with a 2GM20 and a ratio of 2.62.

They said that on an installation that they are familiar with (such as mine), repitching is rarely required, but if it is they cover the cost plus return shipping.

Gareth, go with it. That way if need to repitch, it will be done under warranty. If you asked for your own pitch, then you'll have to bear the repitch cost if it need be done.

Didnt happen that way with me. I used CS recommendation, it was overpitched, I returned the prop and they charged both for re-pitching and shipping. make sure you get that in writing

Garth, let me know what CS says when you ask for warranty in writing. From what I hear, most people are not happy with initial pitch of their props. That worries me. They said the same thing to me, "they were very familiar with my boat and my engine". We should Have very similar blades for our boats.
By the way, how can you tell if blade is wrong pitch.

My problem was the blade was over pitched- 14X9 and had to drop to 14X7. I could not get the rpms up over 2500 and at that it was smoking and at hull speed. I wanted to be able to cruise ( 6 knts at least) at nearer to 2700. It is not good for the diesel to be runnning at low rpms and having to work hard enough to push the hull at almost hull speed

If you are under-pitched I presume you cant get to cruising speed before your rpms are too high
