prolly asked this one before but still only a year sailing experience here on the h23.5 . question: the shroud lines that secure the mast where these t- bolts hook to the boat , are these t-bolts that hook to the boat bent on purpose? reason I ask is I see alot of topics pertaining to the shroud lines getting caught up while mast raising and wondering if these are bent due to past snags from first owners or are they slightly bent for a reason , thanks

Exactly. The T-bolts start out straight. If they are not vertical when tension comes on the shrouds they will get bent as the mast goes further up.

I stop raising just before that point to check all of them. I only continue once I have verified they are all vertical.

Hunter recommends replacing any bent T-bolts.

Something that I find that helps with preventing this is to use a piece of utility cord to tie the shrouds vertical to the lifelines. A simple basket hitch will hold them vertical while you rase the mast, but slip when the shrouds tension and move away from the lifelines.

When the mast is in towing position, I use these same peices of utility cord to support the spreaders from the lifelines so they don't bang on the deck with every bump in the road.
