Rick the short of it is GO FOR IT!. My home port is in Alaska located in the South East island chain. We only sail on the Ocean and we love it. WE never head anywhere we can not get to a protected cove or port in a rush as the weather can change faster than you can run home. I used to live in New England and you will loe the cruise. Coastal Sailing

Rick,The commodore of my yacht club sails his22 all around Porstmouth and out to theShoals. I felt a little small when I hadthe nerve to venture out in mine but I'mnot much of a sailor. I have a C25 now and am a little braver.I would sure give it a try. Cruising Maine

I just bought a C22 Wing Keel this fall. I plan to cruise Casco Bay and North. My other boat was a Compac 16(still trying to sell it), so compared to the other boats the Compac was small, even much smaller than the C22. From what I have read from other Catalina owners your sailing plans should not be a problem. At least I hope they are right since I will be sailing the coast of Maine. As always check the weather. Another point for reference is a book called the "The Maine Coast Guide for Small Boats". Lots of great places and some interesting history. Happy sailing.
