As Far as Algae Goes .............
......... the secondary preventative is to add a biocide with each fill up as per the label. However, the BEST preventative is to ensure there is no water in your fuel tank which is far easier said than done. The way we keep our tank free of water is to use the crankcase oil (pump out) vacuum pump and feed the long tube to the bottom of the fuel tank. The tubing is clear and I keep pumping as long as I see small drops of water in the fuel. When the fuel is free of water droplets, the fuel is water free. This usually involves pumping about 1/4 liter of fuel. The next problem is that, as installed, there is no top access to the fuel tank. This was rectified by machining a small SS flange with a 1/4" NPT hole in the centre. A 1/4" hole was then drilled into the top of the tank and the flange screwed over the hole. I used Permatex No. 2 as the gasket sealant because it's about the only thing that will stick to the polyethylene tank. A 1/4" NPT pipe plug is then screwed into the SS flange to seal up the tank. When I want to pump out any water each year, I remove the pipe plug, pump out the water, and then replace the pipe plug using teflon on the threads.Incidentaly, I usually get no more than a teaspoon of water each year.Regards,s/v Island Hunter
