ALCOHOL STOVE

You may want to start with their web site. kenyonmarine.com. It has been awhile since I had one, but as I recall, I had to take it apart and clean it to make it run right. Good Luck.

HOW much money do you have?

Dan: Depending on how much money you want to spend, I would also recommend that you look at the Origo stoves. They are non-pressurized and work very well. We have had ours since '86 and just add fuel as needed, heats fast and no plumbing required. They also do not flare-up like the pressurized type units.

Try this

If your model is a pressurized two burner with a pump rod located front and center, you may have a worn seal on the pump rod. pour a little motor oil, transmission fluid, or the like on the shaft and see if it helps to pressurize the fuel tank. If you suddenly receive increased resistance on the downstroke, then the oil is helping to create a better seal. Give it a trial run. (Remember to pour a little alcohol in the burner cups and pre-heat the burners for a minute or two). If your stove lights, then a 2 or 3 cent seal is all you need. Hope this your ticket. --Rico

Kenyon stove

It depends on what type of stove you have as to what repairs will need to be made. If you can not get any pressure in the tank the seal may be worn. Rico's advice of putting a little bit of oil on the shaft to coat the seal will most likely take care of your problem. You will need to replace the part which is called a U-Cup if this is the problem. Call Kenyon at 860-664-4906 and ask for Jesse or Beth and they will take care of you. The pressurized stove is superior to all other types of alcohol stoves when you use it correctly. The key is to pre-heat the burner first. If you no longer have instructions just ask Jesse or Beth and they can get you a set. If the pump is not the problem and you have a dirty filter then it can be cleaned by turning the wheel counter clockwise all the way and then back. This will clean the valve. Hope this helps.

replace it

I too own one. My only advise is to replace it before you sink too much money into it. Alcohol is a very dangerous cooking fuel, especially on a boat!

Scare tactic

Any time you use an open flame in a boat, you have to use caution. Alcohol has been used for cooking in sailboats for many years. The most common fear is "flair-ups". When pre-heating a pressurized stove, keep a pot of water on the burner. If for some reason the alchohol ignites in a place other than on the burner, the flames can be put out with water. Propane Stoves may not have the flair-up problem, but they do require very special precautions in your tank locations. Propane is heavier than air, and leaks can collected at the bildge of your boat if not vented properly. A spark could cause these fumes to explode. This may not address the original question, but I hate to see the good old reliable alchol stove get bashed.

How about...

I hear canteen cups and heat tabs work really well, just don't do it inside the cabin and asphyxiate everyone else inside like a certain other Fox XO (now gone to I&I)

Easy to rebuild

We have a Kenyon 2-burner in our H30. It hadn't been used in years when we bought the boat used. It is an easy and interesting winter project to disassemble, clean and rebuild the stove. Will take just a few hours. Usual wear parts are the pump leathers (now replaceable with inexpensive rubber U-cup), the filters, jets, and rubber gaskets. Don't forget clean fresh fuel. Purchased all of our parts at Fawcett's Marine Supply, Annapolis, MD at very reasonable cost. As stated in an earlier reply, flare-ups do go hand-in-hand with pressurized alcohol stoves, but precaution and common-sense will make it a joy to use. Ours now works great! Enjoy the coffee.
