Probably DQOTD but, for those of you using a simple unpressurized alcohol cooking stove, will Coleman fuel work in them? I am recommisioning the galley in my H23. Would like to use some leftover Coleman fuel in the stove, but don't want to create a mess or worse, an uncontrolled fire. Thanks.

No

No, use the recomended one. I use coleman fuel on a Origo stove and almost burn it.

What kind of stove?

Hi Mike, what kind of stove are you using? Just curious, I have an older stove in an Oday 22 I bought last year, trying to decide on using it. Thanks in advance?

NO!!!!!!!

I agree, never use Coleman fuel. Unless you are sure you can get out and want a new boat. It is much closer to gasoline that alcohol.

at our local dump will get the Coleman fuel, since I don't use the Coleman stove anymore! Sure I'm glad I checked on this and appreciate the responses. Jack, this is is original single burner stove that came with the boat back in 1986. I think it is an Origo, but not 100% certain. It has what seems to be a big wad of wick-like material that you pour fuel on and light. You control the flame with a flat metal flap that reduces heat by partially covering the flame until it gets snuffed out. At least, that's how I think it will work..but remember....I am the guy who was one web posting away from pouring the wrong fuel in it!

STOP!!

DO NOT PUT COLEMAN FUEL IN YOUR STOVE!! Fire or explosion may occur. Use only approved alcohol stove fuel.

Coleman Fuel is GAS!!

Don't use it! If you want to use denatured alcohol, then do that instead.

Coleman fuel, MSR fuel, naptha, white gas

are all the same thing. It will burn in a gasoline engine but it is not gasoline. Not the right additives or octane rating.

coleman is naptha

Naptha is what they used to use in dragsters. It burns hotter and faster than gas, and because it has fewer additives, also burns cleaner. Definately do not use it in a large orifice container like an alcohol stove. You will definatley get a boom flash.

Dangerously expensive

I think everyone gave you the message NOT to use Coleman fuel. Plain denatured alchohol from the paint department of your local hardware store. The can will say on the side that it is for stoves. And it may even be cheaper than Coleman fuel! A whole lot cheaper when you DON'T burn yourselve and your boat! Suggestion-I used to carry spare alchohol in a Zig bottle. I felt it was safer and stored better than the square cans.

Denatured alchohol

Used alchohol for 30 years and always bought it from the harware store. Coleman fuel? Can I be your life insurance benificiary? i will pay your premiums for next season if you promise to use Coleman all summer long.

Actually, it's Sigg, a swiss company that was

original manufacturer of Al. fuel bottles used by climbers etc.,used to keep stove gas in one & brandy in the red anodized one.

I have used coleman fuel in my lawnmower

I know that I am lazy but a couple of times I've ran out of gas while mowing the yard. Hot sweaty and not wanting to drive to the service station and just used the coleman fuel. Worked fine. Maybe long term use would cause some harm but I couldn't tell any difference in the lawnmower.

WOW

I think this is the first ever unanimous response to a question here. Even though I said I got it about 11 posts ago, they keep coming. Best response/explanation goes to Roger. Sorry Higgs - no payout coming for this. Never know what will get a big rise out of this crew. I'd like to thank everyone for responding and their concern for my welfare, but I suspect the lousy weather/end of season has a lot to do with it :)
