Albin Vega or similar

Hello,

I am a weekend sailor here in Alexandria, VA, interested in owning an
inexpensive, reliable coastal cruiser and I have been interested in
the Albin Vega since I read about it in a sailing magazine.

I am interested in learning as much as I can about the boat so I
joined this group, I hope you guys don't mind.

Can any of you think of a similar boat for short range cruising,
within the Cheasapeake bay and ultimately hop to BVI, that I can look
into?

I think we should ignore the spam without further comment.
Pretend it\'s not there. Perhaps it\'ll go away...:)

Our Vega is nearly ready for our summer holiday. We are busy with shopping,
stowing and equipping, hoping all will be ready in five days.

We are leaving wednesday for an 8 week sail - down along western Sweden,
over to Læsø, then to Jylland (Jutland?) and over to Grimstad (Norway)
and back to Oslo, all in 8 weeks.

Won\'t be able to rendezvous with the IFR in Marstrand, unfortunately.
Collides with wedding celebrations in Norway. Hoping the rest of you guys
will have fun, of course.

I would appreciate stories of crossings and other peoples summer holidays in
their Vegas.

Have a good summer!

Eric,
If you are a member, you should eventually get a copy (CD) of Fair
Winds from Chuck Rose. Be patient. He is very busy but does a great
job. In it you can look up the Lorna Doone (which Chuck now owns I
believe). This vessel has cicumnavigated the globe with only minor
upgrades as has others. The Vega is swedish built (a positive thing)
for rough weather and manuverabilty and a shallow draft(3'10"). John
Neal sailed his Vega all over the South Pacific and for a while the
Vega held the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing in it's class.
There are other boats in the price range of a Vega but personally I
don't think you can get anything better for safety and
seakindliness. All boats are a compromise, I chose a vega for it's
dependablity and sailabilty. The interior may be lacking a little
but most owners do some modifications that are really nice.

Good luck in your search,
Robert

Eric,
If you are concerned about age, have the vessel surveyed. Probably a
good idea for any boat before purchasing it.
