Hello,

It looks like im going to have to replace the mainsheet traveller on our Vega, Does anyone have have any reccomendations for a replacement. I would like one that i can haul to windward quite easily from the windward side. If anyone had one going spare i would consider purchasing it form you to save of the cost of a new one.

Also we hauled our spinneaker for the first time last year and it seems to have an inward crease at the head as if it has had a damaged section taken out or a repair of some kind. Again does anyone have one for sale?

Any toughts ideas or items considered

thanks

Scott

Scott ...

I replaced the bronze stock traveller with a Nicro Fico ball bearing set ... but only because I found the mainsheet car for only $30 at a local surplus chandlery ... and ordered the end blocks & track from Rig Rite in NJ. Schaeffer makes a set ... as do others ... but I found that I had to make sure that the "modern" mainsheet car allows enough room to open/close the lazarette locker. I purchased the whole set up for about $450.

Best regards,

Tom

Hi Scott if you have a look at my Vega "Albion" the last owner did a really great job on the Mainsheet traveller. Photos in the photo file and I dont think it was that costly in the end. Good luck John.C

Is it possible that your spinnaker was modified on purpose? I have not seen this done but recall having read that some (well, at least one) sailors have tamed their spinnakers. This was accomplished by attaching a line to the head of the sail and running it down the forward face, and under a little strap at the center of the foot. If one pulls on the "tail" you create what was affectionately called an "elephant ass". The result was to spill some wind to either side and the sail become a cross between a spinnaker and a double head sail. I don't know how well this worked, but is it possible that someone tried this, and by creating a groove near the head, was trying to keep the line centered on the sail?

I have a Garhauer main sheet and boom vang ... good stuff, good people to deal with, and reasonable prices too.

Hello Jack,
I use a standard vang and topping lift. But I'm curious about rigid vangs and may one day try one.
