The Fuel gauge is located on the fuel line plate at the top of the tank. If you remove the plate screws and carefully lift it straight up you can check it out.
At this time I removed all the diesel from the tank and used this access hole to polish clean the interior of the tank. There was som scale and black crud. Used a wood dowel with a mechanics rag to completly wipe it down sanitary.

When I fill the tank I remove the valve cap and moniter the rod as it rises up with the fuel level.
Not sure how much more? Gently pull the rod up until it stops and measure the difference. You can figure out all this stuff.
