I live in S. Mexico & we get very little boat traffic so my buying
options are very few.I have been offered a 1976 Vega. She is in good
shape BUT she does not have an engine. The owner has replaced the
engine with a Yamaha 5 HP outboard motor.
What would be a good price for her?

A vega is difficult to price, a top of the range one
could not be worth the total amount of gear on it if
it was in prime conditions and sold separatly (just
the sails would probably be worth in total about
USD4.5k with a further USD4.5K for the engine).

Similarly if a Vega did not have an engine and a
decent set of sails, it could probably sell for 50% of
the value of the top of the range Vega (even if it
cost you twice as much to get the vega to the
condition of the top of the range one).

basically from what I have seen between $12K
(desperate to sell, need the mooring for my brand new
boat which will arive next week) and $28K (I like my
vega, is summer and I am still enjoying the season)
lays the value of a vega, nevertheless it is the best
value for money you will get.

Good luck!
