Hi Sailors: I have a 30' Hunter 1978 and my alarm will not sound when I turn my key on. Both top lites go on (Charge & Oil) but no alarm. Did anyone ever have this problem and if so how did you correct it?? Bob

Pete

same problem

Bob, I have the same problem and have not found the cure. I have to admit I have not looked real hard and it is not my top concern, just check and make sure that the alarm will sound if high water temp or not oil pressure(ground out the sending unit wire and the alarm should sound)alarm is triped to go off. I'm sure other have had this problem and would be curious to the fix also. Good Luck !

I had a similar intermittent problem

and per Hunter customer service recommendation, replaced the alarm buzzer. Pretty simple change on our 1999 340.

I had same problem on my 30' 79 Hunter

I had the same problem. I replaced the buzzer which is sold as a Yamar part. The part is the buzzer, screw on ring and pig tails. I was surprized at how easy the replacement went. I unscrewed the pannel, unplugged the pig tail, and unscrewed the ring. replacement went in reverse order. Time- 10-20 minutes top. Price was around $125.00-$150.00 which I thought was way over the top. I am not sure about the price but I remember it was expensive. I spent the money as I have had my lights lit up and did not know it. $150 is less expensive than a new engine or engine repair. I have also replaced the sending switch for the hot water at $10. Good luck Ian s/v Meant to Be

Thanks

I grounded my lead that goes on the hot water sending unit and no alarm, so I guess the alarm is not working. Where was the new alarm ordered from?? Bob

Purchase location

Yamar is distributed by territory. I think yours is Torresen Marine. You should also check with a local marina with a Yamar sign as they might stock the part. Price is by the suggested sell. Torresen will add freight and sales tax. They also have a web site. At this time, you should also check your other senders as these are not as expensive as the alarm horn. You might need an extra impeller and gasket for the water pump.

Found a buzzer

I went to Radio Shack an picked up a buzzer (12VDC) a little smaller than the one on the boat. I'm going to try it out next week, I'll let everyone know if it works.
