I am looking to install an airconditioner/heater in my 1988 Legend 45. Any suggestions as to size, brand and location of unit?

Here's a stab since....

no one else has responded. My H37C is much smaller but I can give you some dimensions to work with from my Mermaid 12K BTU reverse-cycle unit. You would want a 16K unit and it is only one-inch taller I believe. I used a standard cardboard box cut to a height of 12" as a template. That would be 17"W by 13"D. Now you can go and find a spot for the box. You need access to water, either a new thru-hull or a 'T'-valve off of existing water supply. I went the 'T'-valve route, placed in the sea water engine cooling line between the strainer and the waterpump. This only works when you never plan to run the engine and the A/C at the same time. A friend used a standard 'T' after the head intake thru-hull. But then you would probably need one way check-valves since you would want to flush and have the A/C running at the same time. And your installation has to consider access to passages for ducts. How are you going to get the air to the furthest ends of the boat? Then there is wiring a new C/B into your panel and running 115V to the A/C. Also a thru-hull for the cooling water discharge, 7" to 12" above the waterline. And a drain line for the condensate into the bilge or shower sump. Another option is a special valve that sucks the condensate out of the pan with the discharge water. Check Mermaid's site(http://dterm.com/mmair/), better yet call them. They are very helpful.
