Has anyone installed any type of air vents on their H240? I keep my boat in the water 6 months a year, and would like some kind of vent system to keep the cabin from getting musky. I have considered installing the nicro vent in the front hatch above the V berth. I would also like to install one aft so that I have an intake and exhaust. I cant find a good location for the second vent aft. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to takle this now while the boats out of the water. Don't want to loose sailing time once the season gets here.

Nicro air vent

I installed a nicro air vent in the fornt hatch on my H-30 and found it has worked great. I didn't install a second one as I felt the boat leaked enough air to handle the venting. Used a saber saw to cut the hole in the hatch cover worked like a charm. My boat is in the water all year and we haven't had mold and mildew buildup since installing the vent.

Solar Panal Exhaust Fan

Hello, I installed a solar powered exhaused fan on the foredeck and have the fan blowing out. There is no need for a second one on a boat of this size, especially as the cabin in no where near air tight. Even during the muggy days of late summer there is never a problem of excess humidity or mold, etc. Works great, good luck. Daniel, S/V Endeavor

Nicro Solar Vent

I have a 1994 23.5 and installed a solar powered vent at the beginning of last season. It's installed in the center of the forward hatch. I think the hardest part of the whole installation is finding the center of the hatch (not hard at all). After that, drill a starter hole, and cut the rest of it with a jig saw. It's an esay job to do. As for the secondary fan, you might check the archives of this page. Seems like I remember someone who installed one in a modified hatch board using PVC pipe and elbows to bring the fan into a horizontal position. As for me, I think the single unit is enough. Only one

I have a Legend 37 and use only one Nicro Vent mounted on the small hatch in the center of the salon overhead. This has been more than adequate to keep the air flowing in the cabin.

Me Too

I just put one in my 23.5 just as the others have said in the front hatch. I used a hole saw instead of a jig saw to make the hole. I was amazed at the difference it made in keeping the boat aired out. By the vent before the saw bit if you do it this way. The vent called for a 6 3/4 inch hole but a 6 1/2 inch hole would have worked and it is the same size needed most inspection port covers.

Thanks

Thanks for the input. I think I will just go with the one vent located in the front hatch.

Will the hatch open with the solar vent?

I thought about installing one of the solar vents, but wasn't sure the hatch would open properly against the cabin top windows. Is this a problem on the 23.5?

Mine Does not Open that Far

Mine has a prop rod and only opens to about 90 degrees. so no it is not a problem.

Forward Hatch?

I thought you were refering to the hatch in front of the mast on the bow, not over the companionway. It sounds like you installed your vent over the companionway.

Mine is On the Forward Hatch

Are the forward hatches on the 240 different than on the 23.5? I do not remember. I thought about puting on the companionway hatch but clearance between the and the vent and the slider would be a problem.
