I have a 9 ft. roll-up inflatable dingy that works fine except for inflating it with the foot pump. I'm considering buying an electric air pump. Does anyone have experience with these things and can recommend a specific pump or specifications or suggestions or any information?

I got a foot pump with my fr 260 zodiac and it works just fine I was told not to use any high pressure systems.

Electric Pump

Tom, I agree its tiresome to use a foot pump. The only 12V electric pump I know of which is capable of inflating a dinghy to the correct pressure so it does not need to be topped up by a foot pump is the LVM. Its expensive, screams, draws 30 amps (but only for the 3 minutes it takes to inflate a dink) and puts the dinghy up to between 3 and 4psi. You will not need to top it up. Most low power 12V pumps and vacuum cleaners do not give the pressure and are best for air beds etc. Alternatively there are hand pumps which have a vertical barrel about 18" long and 3" diameter. These are double acting and are very powerful. You stand on two projecting feet and work the handle like an old fashioned fire pump.

12v inflatable pump

I use a 12v pump that works really well, has a regulator that limits it to 3.5 lbs-perfect! and is portable-many places sell it, under different names, but it's oval shaped with two domes in the middle-west's version is p/n 1980952, labeled as a sevylor--$80

LVM - 90 seconds

I bought a LVM at WM 5 years ago. Works great!! Blows uo my 8'6" to 4 psi 90 seconds. I never leave home without it. I also carry it on the boat while cruising and roll up the dink on the bow.
