Air intake on Universal 5444 (O'Day 39)

The air intake on my engine is sort of "pear or Hearsy Kiss" shaped. If you look at the 5444 schematic at the Torrenson Marine site- it is cylindrical in shape with an element inside of it. I took mine apart to discover no elemnt inside, when I called Torrenson, they knew nothing of the "pear or Hearsy Kiss" shaped unit only what's on their website. Who has a unit like mine ( I have always seen this unit in O'Day 39 for sale, engine photos). Is the inside of your unit empty or do you have a replacable element and if you do where do you purchase it? Thanks in advance...

mine's the same

Hi, I just bought an oday 39 and prior to I had an engine survey in addition to the hull survey. the engine surveyer noted that it had no intake air filter but did not say it was a problem or something that needed to be corrected. I intend on leaving mine as is. Jules Robinson Miami Beach, FL
