I removed a small strainer between the tank and the water pump cleaned it and replaced it and opened the faucet I thought the pump was a self priming but it appeared to cavitaited with small blast of water through the faucet siphoned the water from tank to pump still didn't work. Earlier that day I over filled the tank and believe I might have water in the vent due to low points in the vent line, and when I opened the fill cap it sucked in air. but with the fill cap removed I still could not get the pump to push I do have a accumulator and hot water tank any ideas would be appreciated.

Replaced the "T" Valve

I had a similar problem with the diverter valve that changed the draw from either the settee tank or the rear tank on my H34. Although I could not see any water leaks, it was drawing air and water into the pump. Replaced it with two separate inline valves from Home Depot.

Same Problem

I have the same problem on my 85 31. If I empty the tank completely it won't prime upon refilling. What I have to do is crack open the downstream fitting on the pump to get it to prime.

down stream prime

Thanks for the tip Brad I thought it might be drawing in air through a seal but I dont have 2 tanks Bob did you mean that I should remove the pump discharge line and prime the pump that way

What works for me...

I have had this problem with my H33 since I bought it in 2004. What I do is take my small dewalt vacuum cleaner and put the hose on the blow side. I then put it over the water tank vent (on the side of the boat) to create a little pressure in the water tank. I then turn on the fawcett. It takes about 10-20 seconds and the entire system becomes primed. This happens every spring when I am recomissioning my boat.
