I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I am considering a 2.5 HP Island Hopper Outboard for my dingy. I have a hard dingy and it is rated to that size outboard. Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with air-cooled outboards? Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with Island Hopper Outboards? Any Advice??? I am trying to stay with a 2-cycle to save weight and want to stay in the price range of around $500...new or used

I have a 2 HP Honda that is air cooled

with underwater exhaust. It makes more noise than a water cooled for sure, but not as bad as an old Seagull, i've gotten used to it. Don't know anything about Island Hopper.

air cooled outboards

I had a Honda, 2 HP, air cooled on my 15' sailboat and it worked well. I never had any problems even when using it at 3/4 speed for several hours at a time. Novelman

Had a

Cruise-'n-Carry air cooled. Worked OK. Simple, light and cheap. Exhausted above water so very noisy. Get something which exhausts below water for noise.

air-cooled OB engines

I bought a 4.5 HP Honda air-cooled engine last spring and really love it... cranks every time and not having to worry about oil-mix is quite nice.

I would concider dealers, service & parts

When it breaks, who fixes it. If there are service people around (parts etc...) why not.

They're made by Nissan

so service and parts shouldn't be too bad.

cool it

I'm pretty sure that the water intake is only used to cool the exhaust portion of the engine - the heads and cylinders are air-cooled; ICBW

Johnson 3.5

I bought a new Johnson 3.5 at the Dallas boat show for under $700. I used it on my Cat22 and was more than pleased. Started every time, sipped fuel, and moved my boat fine.
