Due to the heat index in the upper 90's and low 100's , I am installing an Air conditioner in my 1979 h-30 . I am torn between the coleman rooftop unit or central air by ocean breeze. Ocean breeze is telling me no less than 16000 BTU but I some how feel thats lot of over kill due to size of salon and v-berth. cost difference is abt half of the cenral water cooled unit for the roof top unit.

WM has a forward hatch
model that works great! We use it at the dock on our lagend 37. With the addition of a room fan in the port aft stateroom door to circulate the air into the aft stateroom it keeps the whole boat cool and more importantly dry. During the hot summer months in Maryland it is the humidity that really is the killer. About $750 and it doesn't take up room in the boat if you have a deck box. Roosa Family TRITIUM

in Maryland, do NOT compare AT ALL with everyday heat AND humidity of the Fairhope/Mobile Bay area!!! The original "roof top" or hatch units were 4500-5000 btu and they upgraded them to 7000 btu. That said, I believe you need at least 10,000-12,000 btu to do the job in your area on a 30 ft Hunter. Check out all the mfgs., there are lots of choices. http://www.king-air.net is a good company, other link is to Mermaid.

Go for the 16k btu
Charles trust me if you have room for the 16k BTU AC go for it. I have a 84 31H I have the Ocean Breeze AC 16k and it is great! As I type this message I am in my boat now. it is a comofortable 80 degrees inside. and a whopping 96 outside. Since youare so close to me I imagine it is the same at your place. Before buying your AC check ebay Ocean breeze sells new units there less than they sell over the phone! I got my 16k for under 1200
