In the next month I plan to install air conditioning in the boat (Florida is hell in the summer). It will only be used at dock side, evenings, after work etc.. Has anyone done this, and where did they place the main unit. Suggestions from the manufacture of the unit suggest giving up the shelf in the hanging closet. Ordering a unit with up vent, run one vent to the main compartment, and one to the v-berth.. Any suggestions to the group.. Fred

h30 AC

I don't know what year your hunter is but mine is a 76 h30. I installed my AC under the port setee, just aft of the water tank. I just barely fit in the vertical space I had. My blower discharge faces forward and dumps into a tee. One side of the tee faces to starboard and connects to a vent to blow in the main cabin. The Port facing portion of the tee is ducted up the port side of the water tank, thru the main bulkhead (there's was just enough of a hole to get it thru.)under the head sink, thru the small stowage compartment behind the head and into a vent that blows into the v-berth. It made a big difference in the comfort of the boat here in south Texas. Hope yours works out ok.

A note about A/C..

I also bought a unit for installation this Spring. I've been wrestling with the thru-hull idea, whether to install what they sent or add a 3-way valve to the engine thru-hull. The issue is that the provided thru-hull and seagate is 3/4" ID while the engine water inlet is 1/2" ID. Well Mermaid just called back to see that many people have used the 1/2" ID without problems. Just didn't want another hole in the boat. And Mermaid is a great company to deal with at 1-800-330-3553.

More info

I spent about 1 hour with the previous owner of Mermaid at the Miami Boat Show, I have also chosen that brand, I almost have my Catalina 27 ready to sell, so I can take the time to work on the H30 (1980). I will be tieing into an existing through haula (engine intake). As for the problem with the water from the pan, I am adding a shower sump. Cost about 100 dollars, Mermaid wants 99 dollars for their valve. So figure I can have two wants for the price of one.. Fred

What size AC

Is 12000 BTU enough down south? Someone explain the pan problem with the Mermaid. Thanks, Steve
