On my 1991 30T I installed the A/C in my aft bunk on the port side. I then built a cabinet to house the unit. This still left plenty of bunk leg room for us. I ran the ducts in the cabinet in the head and then out into the salon then under the port settee. I also installed a duct in the aft area. The unit is a Flagship Marine FMR12R and it works great.
Check out the Mermaid units. The seem easy to install and give you a choice of BTU capacity. Depending on where you are, an 8,000 or 12,000 would probably by your choice.
Just put a Mermaid 16,500 in my 35.5 and it is GREAT. Installed in the aft cabin on with a duct coming out under the companionway. The folks at Mermaid were great to work with.
