I was wondering if anyone ever with a 34, 37 or 30T have installed an air conditioner - what type, new thru hull or use exisiting, where is uint mounted, dc or ac, and lessons learned. Also, regarding the current refrigerator unit and ice box, wondering if anyone ever tried to upgrade insulation - what proved most benificial. Notice on warm days it can't keep up - what's your experience (charge is good and unit was totoally revamped a few years ago but know it was never great. Thoughts??

AC / Reefer

Blitz; On my 34 I just installed a new AC unit using the old salt water foot pump seacock thru hull as my water pickup( i did away with the footpump). My unit is installed under the strbd. settee bunk fwd of all other systems.Had to cut out an air return duct in the face of the bunk a few inches from the bulkhead that separates the bunk from the hanging locker[basically across from the mast].The thru hull was in the locker inside the head sink, so I ran a new hose under the pan to the strbd. bunk, added a sea strainer, a A/C water pump and drilled my over board discharge inside the seat back locker[above the waterline] fwd. of the chainplate bulkhead[also stbd] where I have easy access to the hose fitting. The unit is a 16K BTU Cabin Mate Reverse cycle from West Marine. It is an A.C. only unit and does not work unless I have shore power connected.I went with the big unit because I live in Florida and temperatures can reach over 100 degrees AND I have no headliner.I am in the process of wiring the unit with it's own breaker next to the panel.Next I will locate the digital controller inside a custom teak box in the main salon.I no longer have any cabinets either port or stabd. so I can do a lot. Finally the hose exit for the cold air will be built between the two chainplate bulkheads at the cabinet counter level pointing into the main salon.I will use a holesaw to cut out the counter so the hose can be passed thru.My boat is very much open . I have removed the head doors and head bulkhead to gain more room.It is truly a ROGUE and all custom...not like anything you will ever see.I am totally rebuilding it for serious offshore sailing.I have not undertaken the reefer yet, but agree it needs to have better insulation.I have been researching my options but have no clear idea at this point. If I can be of any help, please call me @ 0904-349-6872.Glad to answer any questions you have if I am able. Cheers- Capt. Hawk ROGUEWAVE

Sounds very custom - it figures you have no headliner with that heat. I'm still hanging on to mine. so I assume it's working good? The actual AC unit is mounted in the main salon or the bath area? Main salon starbourd side still has water tanks on Starboard side so not sure where to mount. any suggestions?

A/C on hunter 30

I recently installed a 16500 BTU unit from ocean breeze, Ater many recomendations ". unit installed in hanging closet across from head on STB side. Gave up a litlle space for hanging clothes but sacrafice was well worth the comfort this summer. With High humidity on the coast and temps 90 plus during the day, my salon is a comfortable 73-74 degress F at peak of day. unit came with 3 supply ducts so i put 1 in the v-berth and 2 in the salon. Installation was very easy and straight forward. unit is A/C only but the honda 2000 generator at $1000.00 runs the unit well as well as other appliances like TV and Coffee maker. Staff at ocean breeze was very knoledgable and helpfull both before and after the sale. Highly recomended. Can provide photo's or you can call me direct at 251-401-6457.

AC on S37

How about on a S37. I am about to do away with hot water to make room for an AC unit. I see an unlikely location in the starbord locker below the V-berth just ahead of the head. I'll have to relocate the Y valve and other holding tank plumbing and it'll be tight fit.....?????? Anyone done this on an S37?
