Air conditioning/heating fan settings

We have a 2005 Hunter 41DS that has factory installed air conditioning/heating. When the system reaches the preset temperature, it shuts down but the fan continues to run. Is there a setting somewhere that would make it so the fan would quit blowing air when the heater has shut down? The fan settings are A, 1, 2, 3 and it doesn't turn off when in the A (auto?) setting.

Do you have the manual for your system? If not have you tried searching the web for it? You will probably find a section on programmable settings which allows you to set the fan to run continuously or to run only when the compressor is engaged.

On our Marine Air unit, it requires entering programming mode, going to the proper setting and changing the default, then saving. Run continuously is the default.

Eddie Breeden, the Marlow-Hunter customer service guy, has sent me a manual which suggests one can change the setting on the fan from "continuous" to "cycle" by holding the fan button for 5 seconds. So I will try that.

By the way, my experience with Mr. Breeden of Marlow-Hunter has been off the charts good. He is extremely responsive and helpful. They should be extremely pleased with his way of representing the company.

It is quite normal for the fan to continue running for a couple of minutes when the unit is on heat mode and the compressor cycles off. Is your fan running continuously? Does it behave in the same way in cooling mode also?

Do get the manual as there are a number of user adjustable settings. The manual will tell you what each of the functions is as you scroll through, what the default setting is and what the options are. You enter programming mode by having the power to the unit on but having it turned off at the thermostat. You press and hold the on button until it goes into programming mode. You can then scroll through the options which range from fan duration to high and low fan set points, heat only, air condition only or auto modes, and on and on. For fan you have option of continuous or cycle compressor. I've found that if I'm hearing I like the fan to cycle with the compressor so that it isn't blowing cold air when the compressor is off. But with air conditioning I like it on continuous (but at a lower speed) because it keeps air moving so that it doesn't get stuffy / stagnant and as a result you don't need to set the temperature as cold. In fact my guess is that your unit is a Dometic and if it is, here is a link to the manual http://www.dometic.com/QBank/EPiSer...rols/Elite-DX-Operation-Manual-2230_15172.pdf See page 14 for the programming options.
