My '87 Oday 322 has an air conditioner installed by the previous owner in the cockpit locker. The current set-up uses a seawater pump which is dangled over the port side by its water hoses. It's kind of Rube Goldbergish, and I want to install a new seacock, pump, strainer and water hoses inside, but I'm having difficulty finding an appropriate location for the strainer and pump. Both items should be installed below the waterline to maintain the pump prime, and all of the 3/4 " strainers I can find are too large for the most convenient location below the aft berth. I'm considering using a Groco 1/2" strainer, although I'm concerned that it will be too small. I may also change the entire set-up and move the A/C unit somewhere else on the boat. Any advice would be much appreciated.
