I have a Hunter 280 and after the unbelievably hot summer we had this year in Oklahoma, I would like to install an AC unit that I can run off a small generator. I do not want a roof top model AC. I thought I would put it under the port or starboard seats, but the storage openings are too small to fit the footprint of the small boat AC units found on the web.

Does anyone have another idea as to where to install an AC unit on a Hunter 280?

Thanks,

We use an inexpensive window unit set in the companionway when on shore power. The nice thing is that it fits in the port cockpit locker when not in use. A Honda 2000 would easily power one on the hook. Noisy though - no fun.
I have heard that a marine unit has been installed in a 280 but don't know any details.

Clark,

Thanks for the input.
I may be resigned to using a portable but sure like the conveience of having it built in. By the way, Honda generators are very quiet.
I had to go put my hand on a Honda 1000 to see if it was running or not.

Space is the primary issue with a built-in on our boats; that and all the holes that would have to be cut through cabinets and walls for the duct work. The Honda 1000 is very quiet; just be careful with the startup current requirements with any type A/C.
