Wondering if anyone has heard of the acceptability (or not) of putting something in the AC wet filter(strainer) to clean out down line residue and the AC unit itself...???

It would depend on the Material of construction used on the AC heat exchanger. I know mine is made from the same material as a swimming pool/spa heater. Depends on your AC maker.

So...
I use small Bromine spa tablets, once a season, to clean the tubes inside surfaces. They are small enough to fit inside my strainer basket. Then after they, [≈3 - 1 inch tabs] dissolve, I use shore water pressure to blow out the sea water lines until we see a clear flush.

This looks like a very thorough solution. My challenge is that this is the aft berth AC unit and is in an outside locker at the stern (I think they must have been thinking about the noise). The intake and strainer are below deck up in the salon about 20 feet away. I'd have to use lots of hose and be creative with the routing. May try something easier for my experience level but thanks a ton!
