Last week, when it was very, very hot up here in NY, my wife ask me a question I thought I would never hear from her. "How much would it cost to put air conditioning on our boat". After showing here the prices in the West Marine and Boat US catalogs she put that out of her mind. But my question is who has AC on the boats under 30 feet? Is it worth the expense? and where did you install it?

Have you considered a portable?

Ken: Have you considered one of the portable units? They are realitively inexpensive and are available on the used market. Not as convienent but they provide some relief from the heat and humidity.

Yes?

We had the unit installed when purchased new. It pays for it's self over time. Not only is is climate control but can dehumidify when we are not there. Yes, cost is a factor but what price can you put on a good night's sleep before a great day on the water? As others have said you can still go with a portable. We have one if you are interested. edrayman@yahoo.com

Even less expensive

I, too, have had great results with a portable on my 33. But, I have friends who saved a lot of money by mounting a normal window unit in one of the companionway washboards. It was awkward to step over, but a lot of bang for the buck.
