Does anyone think it would be a problem adding another thru hull to drain the condensation pan rather than in the bilge?

It needs to high-up (a rail in the water would be very bad if wasn't on the stern).
Generally, I'd be VERY sure if you ran it through the rear transom; and I wouldn't even try to put it "out the side".
A mistake could be a very wet experience.

Why can't you get a simple sump kit from Rule? There must be a better way.

That idea works perfectly if your boat never leaves the slip. However, if that little bit of fresh water bothers you that much, you could install a sump, a pump, a thru-hull, and a vented loop. Or you could lead the drain line to a shower sump if you have one.

There are venturi devices that will suck water when water passes through the main ports. Why not plumb one of these devices into the A/C cooling water and connect it to your pan. Whenever the A/C runs, it will suck any condensate out and add it to the cooling water. Search on the 'net for "venturi pumps" and see if you can find something that will work. I would not put another hole in my boat just to drain condensate. What is the issue with draining to the bilge? Is it the only source of water that gets to the bilge?

There's probably no way to do this with just a thru hull unless your AC is strangely high up. If it's below or close to the waterline water will flow back up into the pan either when you're sitting or heeling. There are pumps and Venturi devices you can use for this purpose, and plenty of threads in the archives of the pros and cons. I'm on the side of not leaving that stagnant water that's flowed over dust covered coils sitting in the bilge, but some prefer simplicity instead.

I did that in my last cat... but the pan was ~ 30 inches above the waterline and near the center of the boat (under salon seat on bridge deck). This would be unlikely to work on a mono.

Ours drains into the bilge and I plan on keeping that way. Not that much water anyway. Already too many holes in the hull to drill more.

I'll just keep the fresh water in bilge and use it for toilet flushing when need. I usually get about 2.5L of fresh water after my bilge pump is done pumping.

Drill a hole and put a small drain in the pan and connect to, your shower sump pump if you are able to gravity flow. Just make sure you put biocide tablets in the pan and you will keep the hise clear.

Mermaid made a unit called the Condensator that attached to the condensation pan and to the outboard discharge drain from the air conditioner. Worked well but a bit pricy

Jerry, were you able to do that on your 356?

I have installed in the bilge lowest point and about drain all areas of the boat in it, such as ice-box, shower, water system, and air-conditioning.
Hope this helps! Capt. Rob
