AH-4000 questions

My question is about actuator response. Sometimes my unit moves very quickly and crisply and other times it seems to labor extremely slowly. Dosen't matter wether there is excessive pressure on the wheel or not. No complaints here because the boat (a Hunter 34) sails well under autopilot, even when the helm is somewhat unbalanced. Me too

Mine does the same thing and it is a new unit. The old unit did the same thing. It is useless with a following wind and works well from a close haul to a beam reach.

Drive output

The autopilot drive output voltage level is adjusted and ramped to account for various course keeping conditions. This is easier on the drive and more efficient for the power consumption.
