Aftermarket alternator 80 RC8

I need one for the Rc8 on my 80 h27. Has anyone replaced the alternator? After the 500 dollar waterpump from France{aka Nanni desiel aka Lauderdale Performance Desiel aka some motel up north)I need a price break. Besides, Lauderdale performance desiel doesnt answer the phone anymore.

Fixable?

I just had an Hitachi off of a Yanmar tested by an auto-electric shop. I am sure they could have repaired it were it necessary. Is yours not repairable or do you not have one? If you do have one what is the make and model? Sometimes you will find them in "Gear Here" on this site under "Boats For Sale". And check E-Bay.

Not sure of the brand you have, but like Ed, I had my hitachi rebuilt and now carry it as a spare to my balmar.

Take you unit to a good alternator shop and have them test it. Usually they can repair it if it needs to be rebuilt. Should cost about $125. Check the archives, there is a place in Fla (I forget the name) that will sell alternators for about the same ($125) you send them your old core.Good luckI had mine checked and the problem was with corrosion on the regulator terminals.
