Peggy.... I've followed your instructions for sanitizing my fresh-water tanks as per your book (great book by the way..!!). Now I do have the residual chlorine odor/taste and I want to flush this with the vinegar/water solution. Is the recommended ratio of one quart vinegar to five gallons of water good for any tank size.??? I have two tanks of approximately 70 gallons each. Thanks much.

Just needs a fresh water flush.

Frank: For you fresh water system, you just need to fill the tank and keep running the water until the bleach odor/flavor is gone. Be sure to run the hot water side too. It sometimes takes a tank or two. I usually just open all the taps and keep the fill hose filling the tank.

Keep the ratio, just don't fill the tanks

Any residual chlorine taste will be in the plumbing and the water at the bottom of the tank, so you really only need to fill your tanks 1/4-1/3...then run water till it's in the lines--same as you did with the bleach--let it sit a few hours while you go sailing and tack a lot...then flush it out with a lot of clean fresh water.
