The day finally arrived and the "Lady J", K-40 hull number, went feet wet for the first time in 19 years. She seeped at about 1000 Gals an hour for the first thrity minutes and then took up rapidly. Twelve hours after launch, the water in the bilges had dropped below the pumps. As good as she looked on the hard, the sight of her in the water was amazing.

Here's a slideshow and a couple of pics.

looks great, but could you go into a little detail about the seeping 1k gal/hr? I have no experience with wooden boats, and I know all boats leak some, but I thought the idea was start out with tightly sealed joints and seal / coat the outer timbers so they didn't absorb the water and rot... Am I just totally wrong here?

When you drop dry wood into water it takes a little while for it to get wet and swell. But it does and then the boat stays dry.

Within a month of hauling a carvel planked, any wooden boat for that matter, the wood shrink and the seams open. One of the issues with old boats is the loss of elasticity of the seam compound, causing separation from the plank edges and seeping, even when they take up. Depending on the planking style, how well the job was done, a wood boat will weep water at high rate until the planks swell or "take up". Some boats weep for a month. This one sealed right up fast and had me worried that we set her in too hard. No issues though, no started fasteners, cracked ribs or popped planks so I reckon we nailed it.
