After this years bottom job, I motored back to the marina and noticed that a lot of sea water had collected in the engine pan and overflowed into the bilge. I cleaned up the mess and attributed it to the packing gland needed adjustment or replacement. I have since done both and the leak continues unabated while underway, with or without engine running. There is not excess water dripping from the packing gland and I am still getting water in through the engine pan. At the aft, starboard side engine pan there is a steady, slow stream of seawater. Is there a possible explanation for this? This only started after the bottom job. I had dust in the bilge before the marina did the bottom paint. Can't help but think the two are related. Is there a through hull back there someplace where a fitting may be leaking?

OK. Nevermind. I figured it out this afternoon. It had nothing to do with the poor guys who painted the bottom. The exhaust pipe that exists the boat in the stern was deteriorated and cracked. The exhaust gas, mixed with cooling water was escaping into the compartment aft of the starboard compartment. I pulled it off, cut off the deteriorated end (there was plenty of pipe that remained in good condition) and replaced it. I feel like a new man tonight.
