HELP HOW DO I REMOVE THE SHELF IN THE AFT CABIN FOR ACCESS TO THE EXHAUST ELBOW. I NEED TO REPLACE THE EXHAUST BUT CANNOT FIGURE HOW TO REMOVE THE SHELF. DO I TAKE OUT THE TEAK SCREW COVERS ON THE MOLDING AROUND THE SHELF? THEN WHAT? I APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE. I HAVE READ ALL OF THE ARCHIVES AND AM STILL AT A LOSS. THE BOAT IS A 1988 HULL 901. THANKS CHUCK FINK

Shelf removal

I have a 1994 C-36 and recently removed the shelf to service the heat exchanger. Mine came off very easily. There were only 3 ro 4 screws holding it in place and were not under teak screw covers (bungs, I believe they are called). Look carefully along the edges of the shelf for the uncovered screw heads. I would describe mine as located as follows: 1. on the port side edge, entering from aft 2. on the starboard side edge, but entering from starboard. There was no need to remove the molding. It stayed intact when the shelf slid out all in one piece. Perhaps your screws are countersunk into the molding and covered with teak bungs. In that case, you'll have to carefully cut out the bungs. Good luck.
