Aft Cabin Leak on our 376

We now have a leak coming in the aft cabin of our 376. The previous owner caulked the top of the rub rail-hull joint with silicon that is now pealing away and we get a small amount of water under the bed. Biggest problem is mildew.Should we just re-caulk, or is it more serious?Thanks for the helpRREggeSV/Allie Kat

You may want to check under the deck cover at the wheel. (4 screws at the swim step to release the cover....don't forget to silicone the screws when you put them back. Don't want a leak there too.)I too thought I had a leak at the hull joint that resulted in water under the bead. I turned out to be a small leak where the wires are run to the console. I cleaned all the old silicone off and gooped it up real good, pressing the new silicone into the wire bunch...leak stopped.

How we fixed this problem

We had a similar problem with our boat and I found that the problem was due to the access covers that are on the gunwale just aft of the helm. I believe that this is where the arch is mounted on this boat if it has one. The covers close a 12"l X 7" long opening that is about 6" deep. In the bottom of the well there was a hole drilled to facilitate draining. I found that collected water would leak down the hull side and leak into the aft cabin at the aft portside corner of the master stateroom cabin at the mattress. Once I recaulked the well cover the leak stopped. This may not be your problem but it is worth looking into as it was a 15 minute fix.
