Hi
If anyone is on their boat any time soon could you measure the aft bunk.
I'm thinking about getting a memory foam mattress for the rear bunk. Has anyone else put one of these in their boats? I've tried searching but didn't find any info.
Thanks

Foam

You will have to measure the berth but I'll bet that the queen size foam pad will fit. We put one in the aft berth of our 2000 H340 and it fits "almost" perfectly. The berth has a few angles and corners that are not square but the main part of the mattress fits. It is one of the best sleep aids we have purchased. The standard Hunter 4" foam mattress on a hard surface left us with sore backs and hips. The memory foam is great. We bought our's at Costco and I think it was around $120. Don't get the thick one with the two layers. One is regular foam and the other memory foam. The single thickness pad is the one.

foam

Thanks John

Did you put the new foam on top of the old mattress?

I think that the mattress i have is the original one from the eighties. After about 2 hrs it's time to move around to find a comfortable spot to lie on. I'll have to check out the Costco in our city. I'm thinking that any mattress that we get will have to be trimmed to fit.

Has anyone bought a memory form mattress and covered it with a fabric like sunbrella? Or any other type of fabric?
thanks
Don

On Top

Don,
Yes, we put the new memory foam mattress on top. The memory foam mattress comes with a thin fabric covering - sort of like a pillow case. I think you can zip it open to trim the foam. If you buy new 3 or 4 inch foam to replace the old mattress, don't get the very hard stuff. They tell you that it will last longer but I think that is because it is so hard that you won't use it to sleep on.

Thanks again John

That's why I like this site. Everyone is willing to help and answer dumb questions. It can sure save a lot of time and money. Learn from others you don't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself.
I like to say the only dumb question is the one you don't ask!

My wife ordered ours from overstocks.com and several of our friends have followed our example. She made slip covers out of some sort of stretchy T-shirt stuff.

We got a 3" queen size memory form (from Sam's Club) to put on top of the existing cushion in the quarterberth of our 1987 31' Hunter. We cut a slit in the back to accomodate the rudder post. It works great and has dramatically improved the comfort. We did not cover it but just put a fitting sheet over it. It is heavy and we fold it over to one side or the other to get access to engine, etc.
