Aft Berth Leak from Cockpit Pedestal on 26X

After washing the cockpit of my 26X with a garden hose, I noticed that my aft berth was wet directly under the pedestal opening. This opening above the center of the aft berth, which has the cables coming out from the pedestal controls to the engine, has no rubber gasket to keep water out; however, there is a gasket where the cables exit the aft starboard side and go into the engine. My question: Am I missing a gasket? Maybe it was just the pressure from the garden hose sprayed into the pedestal at many different angles that caused the leak and normal rain and spray would not leak. Anyone have any ideas?

Stand Pipe

The cables go through a stand pipe that is about 2 inches above the cockpit floor. There is no gasketing. As long as water does not rise above the stand pipe, no water should get into the rear berth. However, if you sprayed water into the pedestal, it may have followed the cables down through the stand pipe. How about were the cables exit the pedestal to the throttle?

Thanks

Thanks, that makes sense to me. I will be more careful when washing down the pedestal. I don't think I have a gasket where the cables exit the pedestal to the throttle. I could have very well pointed the garden hose right at it! Sam
